I read this howling with laughter...while crouched on the floor in the 26-inch-wide gap between the bed and the window, because it's the only place I can get functioning internet on my laptop since our 'upgrade' last week. I feel your pain. (Still, your parents are at least one level of technical advancement over my mother. She refuses to have internet, which is probably just as well, since I discovered that she thinks a computer 'mouse' is an actual live rodent hidden somewhere within the machine...)

In some sense it's reassuring but also disappointing to know that the ISP experience in Australia is just as bad as in the US.

Dani, this is hilarious! 😄And well done with serving your parents too 😌

I'm tech support for my father in law. I have lived this too!

I'm speechless, but thanks for sharing. So relatable in some way. Made me chuckle several times.

Very relatable! My sweet dad (83) changes his password periodically and isn’t sure how he changes it but then isn’t sure what the new password is. My mom regularly turns her ringer off on purpose and then gets upset when she can’t hear the phone ringing.

And they both like to watch videos at high volume when out in public. 🙃

And there in one short post is the world of caring for elderly parents in the early 21st century - a privilege, a responsibility & a really tough gig - all at the same time.

“Wow woe woe to the inhabitants of the earth…”

We have engineered ourselves into an inhumane Kafkaesque prison where the unrelenting techno nightmare Groundhog Day has made bars and locks obsolete.

I grant you this is very amusing and realise that what you're describing happens. But this experience you describe is not limited to those rich in years. I'm a tiny bit sensitive though, because there's a slight touch of ageism in your narrative. I'm likely just a little younger than your parents but, contrary to the somewhat irritating assumptions of many people younger than me, I function perfectly well in internet-land and the tech world.
