As a never-married Christian woman who lives alone, NYE is typically the one night of the year that I fear being alone. It’s the one night of the year when sitting by myself on my couch becomes unbearably loaded with the emotional weight of what was, what could have been, what is and what isn’t.
Yawn! There are those of us (married) who do not deviate from their early bed time; I'll be asleep by 930am!. I'll ponder why those who understand the mystery that God hid from the ancients have a hollowness that needs to be filled by the trivial passing of a midnight hour.
Hi Danni, as a long-term divorced woman i relate to some of this. I don’t long for company on NYE in particular because I don’t want to do any of the activities people usually do on NYE. But I can empathise with a general feeling of longing for company. For me, I long for kind company on ordinary days. But my emotions are too intense for most people to want to handle them. Hence, I write. And read Scripture. There are many people in the Bible - both Old and New Testaments - who are my friends; moreso than the people I know in real life.
